On behalf of the Officers and Board of PAVAUK I wish you  a warm welcome to the charity website.

Our visitorometer tells us that we have had 4,300 visitors to this new site since 9th July 2009 as of 26th March 2011 on which date we have revamped the design of the website and made one or two technical tweaks.

Sadly this number does not equate to membership numbers and the building of members in this somewhat penny pinching time globally is one of the things the board has been looking at. Another issue which seems increasing is the demand by employers finance departments for every type of invoice and claim to be ratified. Delays of up to 7 months have been experienced in receiving subscriptions of simple joining or renewal fees.

We regret we will no longer continue joining process for more than three months which is within the constitution. It states on the joining leaflets which are in the public domain that the completion is accepted as an invoice, there is no need from our angle for invoices, proforma or otherwise to be sent out and certainly we will no longer chase or pursue repeatedly especially as we operate with minimal admin support with only costs being covered.

Without it sounding like an Oscar Ceremony I would like to thank all Board members especially Dr Mervyn Eastman our president, Pete Morgan our Chair, Stephanie who doubles as Charity Secretary and Membership Secretary and most importantly I would like to thank you as members for continuing to support the charity, please never be backwards in coming forward in making contact.

I also place on record our thanks to Mr Norman Campion who has assisted greatly behind the scenes with  admin and membership renewals, this year we have started to introduce standing order mandates.

I also welcome new Trustees, Solicitor Caroline Coats from Southampton and Health-care Professional Ann Rouine from Birmingham.  Stephanie Angell (nee Pateman) involved with vulnerable people in the criminal justice arena, an officer/trustee of other national organisations also becomes a Trustee following a year as a  co-opted member of the Board.

PAVAUK seek local representation, local people happy to lead and co-ordinate groups, we will provide from our budget funds of up to £200 per year to assist your endeavors by contributing £50 for each of four quarterly meetings. We seek interested parties to be co-opted to the board to allow us to have some input from various angles, our chair seeks some assistance in Birmingham with project planning, tell us how we can assist you and what you feel needs to be considered.

As I have mentioned on this website, my appointment as Honorary Chief Executive which I have agreed to continue until November 2012 is not the assumption to a role with great power, far from it. It is an attempt to ensure day to day cohesion with the work of the charity bearing in mind of course that we are all volunteers, there is only a very small financial consideration to cover administration and costs, to keep the office running.

When the PAVAUK telephone is answered here down on the edge of Exmoor in Devon you will almost certainly be speaking to Stephanie or myself,  you will I am sure tell the difference by the voice.

I have been involved with the then PAVA since 2007, becoming more involved as time progressed to now when on 3rd October 2009 becoming titular CEO in addition to Treasurer of the Charity and a Trustee. We will always try and speak personally but as we both have our own professional roles in health and social care/criminal justice, this is not always possible, always feel free to leave a message or drop us an e mail.

The appointment of a CEO is not the assumption of someone with power and a grandeous title but is intended to instill a more formal structure on a day to day basis instead of named officers and trustees being geographically separated, each with their own professional lives and commitments, bearing in mind also that we all contribute our skills, experience and qualifications voluntarily.

We have achieved our goals for  2008/9  and 2009/10  workplans and for the next 12 months have developments including a working forum, our earlier attempts sadly plagued with security and safety issues plus the collapse of our then web service provider. Westminster and legislation will see our attention continually as will our input to formal working groups and consulation processes.

We have a friendly and proactive board, each specialists within their own fields and of course with the intentions of us all prevention of abuse to vulnerable adults.

Enjoy your visit to the website, interact with us and if not already a member do please join. Our website door is always open.
